Cyathus

Cyathus includes bird’s nest fungi resembling Crucibulum, in that the eggs are attached by a fine elastic cord to the nest base, but differing in the conical often flaring shape of the nest. Six species are reported from New Zealand.

Cyathus stercoreus

Typically fruits on herbivore dung in pasture. The outside of the nest is shaggy with matted hairs, the inside grey to black and the eggs (peridioles) shining grey black.
