Fruiting bodies in confluent (growing together) groups on dead wood, readily identified by the distinctly grey lower poroid surface. Saprobic.
Only one species in New Zealand.

Bjerkandera adusta

Fruiting on dead wood of native trees, forming thin brackets and crusts sometimes extending up to 20 cm over wood surface, with poroid surface grey contrasting with a white margin. Upper surface hairy, light brown or grey.
